Timings of 10 trains changed to prevent Gir Lions’ deaths on railway track

Bhavnagar: To prevent the deaths of rare Asiatic lions on railway tracks, the Indian Railways has revised the schedules of 10 trains that travel through their habitat in the Gir forest and nearby regions, suspending some services during nighttime hours.
In a press release, the Bhavnagar Railway Division stated, “As per the order of the High Court of Gujarat, for the safety of Asiatic lions, trains are not to be operated during nighttime hours in the Kansianesh-Sasangir and Junagadh-Bilkha sections.”
Currently, train number 09531 Delvada-Junagadh and train number 09540 Junagadh-Amreli reach their destinations at 20:20 hrs and 20:30 hrs, respectively.
To improve their schedules and ensure all metre-gauge trains run on time, it has been decided to change the timings of 10 metre-gauge trains in the Bhavnagar division starting from 07.10.2024.
