Gujarat’s 1st on-land signature cable bridge to come up in Rajkot for Rs 150 crore

Rajkot: The Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC) has announced a tender for the construction of nine new bridges simultaneously in the west zone to alleviate traffic congestion. One of the key projects includes a signature cable bridge at Kataria Chowk on Kalavad Road, which will be built at a cost of ₹150 crore. This will be Gujarat’s first signature cable bridge to be built on land, as most such bridges are typically constructed over rivers or seas. The bridge is expected to be completed within 30 months.

Apart from the signature bridge, other projects in the west zone include three separate bridges on the ring road in Ward No.11, to be built at a cost of ₹42.26 crore. Additionally, two bridges near Rangoli Park will cost ₹7.20 crore, one bridge near Munjka Police Station will be constructed for ₹5.53 crore, and a bridge between Raiya Village and Smart City over the Nala will be built at a cost of ₹12.65 crore.

The signature cable bridge at Kataria Chowk will be completed within 30 months after the tender is approved and the work order is issued. The three-layer bridge will allow vehicles to take a U-turn on the ground floor and provide access to both Kalavad Road and the Second Ring Road.

Additionally, the underpass will provide access to the new ring road, while the overpass will allow drivers to travel from Jalaram Food Court to Cosmoplex. The flyover will be 800 meters long and 24 meters wide, with a central span of 160 meters. The flyover will begin at Jalaram Food Court and end at Cosmoplex. The underpass will be 600 meters long and 18 meters wide, starting from the drain near Rangoli Park Housing Scheme and ending at the 80-meter TP road. The state government has allocated a grant for this first signature cable bridge in the city.

For the first time in the Corporation’s history, tenders for nine bridges have been announced simultaneously over three days, all in the West Zone. The decision to build these bridges is aimed at strengthening connectivity with Rajkot’s smart city. DeshGujarat
