Surat: The local police have arrested three more individuals involved in the stone-pelting incident that occurred at the Ganesh Pandal “Variavi Cha Raja” in Syedpura on September 8. The police had previously nabbed 30 individuals in the case, and now, with the arrest of these three additional suspects, aided by CCTV footage, the total number of arrests has reached 33.
During the Ganesh Utsav on September 8, six individuals pelted stones at the Ganesh statue “Variavi Cha Raja” in Syedpura, prompting hundreds of locals to gather at the Syedpura Police Chowki to demand action against the accused. All six suspects, including four minors, were arrested, and the police launched a combing operation along with a prompt investigation. During the combing operation, which continued through the night, Surat police teams arrested over 20 individuals who had encouraged the stone-pelting incident.
Following the stone-pelting, a clash broke out at the location, forcing the police to resort to a lathi charge, and around ten tear gas shells were fired to disperse the crowd. The police have now made these new arrests. DeshGujarat
