Trial of Kavach system on 96 km Vadodara-Ahmedabad railway line completes

Vadodara: A trial run of the Kavach (train protection system) has been successfully completed in the 96 km automatic signaling section of the Vadodara-Ahmedabad railway line.

The installation of this indigenous Kavach technology is going on in full swing, with Western Railway in the process of installing security devices in the locomotives (driver cabins) of 90 trains and laying signal wires on 789 km of railway track. Of this, the work on the Kavach system has been completed on 470 kilometers of track, and 60 locomotives have been equipped with the technology so far. The target is to complete and conduct trial runs on over 735 km by 2024-25.

The automatic signaling section in the Vadodara-Ahmedabad line spans 96 km, where a public trial using version 4.0 of the Kavach system has been successfully completed. Testing has been finished on 201 km out of 336 km in the Virar, Surat, and Vadodara sections. Additionally, testing has been completed on 172 km out of 303 km in the Vadodara, Ratlam, and Nagda sections. There is a 54 km area in the Mumbai Central-Virar suburban section where the construction of towers and laying of optical fiber cables is underway.

This automatic train safety technology enhances train safety by enforcing speed limits. If two trains are about to collide, the train driver receives a warning signal, which helps prevent accidents. Wires are laid along the railway track, connecting to the locomotive driver’s cabin through the GPS system and the station tower. If the track is broken or there is any danger, the system sends a signal to the driver, helping to prevent train accidents and save lives. DeshGujarat
