AMC to appoint senior advocate for 31 cases involving Waqf Board

Ahmedabad: A total of 31 cases filed by the Waqf Board against the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) are pending in the Gujarat State Waqf Tribunal. The civic body has ordered the appointment of a special prosecutor for these cases.

During the AMC’s legal committee meeting, an order was issued to establish a monitoring committee to oversee the cases filed by the Waqf Board against the AMC. Prakash Gurjar, chairman of the legal committee, stated, “In light of the 31 pending cases against the AMC by the Waqf Board in the tribunal, an order has been given to appoint a senior advocate.”

Meanwhile, reacting to the reports, the Secretary of the Ahmedabad Sunni Muslim Waqf Committee stated, “As far as the 18 cases of the Sunni Muslim Waqf Committee are concerned, there is not a single case involving a property title suit. No such suit has been filed by the Sunni Waqf Committee against the AMC or any other government body. In all these 18 cases, the properties already belong to the Waqf. One such case is about a property opposite the GPO, which we had rented to the AMC for running a Urdu school. Now, with no school operating, the AMC is allegedly refusing to return the possession of that the property and the suit regarding it are pending in the Gujarat State Waqf Tribunal”. DeshGujarat
