3 dead, 1 rescued after block collapses at bullet train construction site in Anand

Anand: Three workers lost their lives, and another was rescued after concrete blocks at the construction site of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train corridor collapsed in Rajupura village near Vasad in Anand district on Tuesday.

The incident occurred around 5 pm when a temporary steel and concrete structure used for well foundation work collapsed, trapping four workers under the concrete blocks.

Anand fire officer Dharmesh Gor confirmed the fatalities, stating, “We rescued two laborers, one of whom succumbed to injuries in the hospital, while two bodies were recovered at the site.” Gor mentioned that the fire brigade received a call around 5:15 pm. He added that the NHSRCL (National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited) team and locals from Rajupura village assisted in the rescue, as the concrete blocks were heavy.

The deceased laborers were identified as Ranjit Yadav from Bihar, Kanu Dahya Solanki from Vasad, and Prahlal Baria from Panchmahals district. Baria passed away during treatment at SSG Hospital in Vadodara, while Yadav and Solanki died on-site.

Rescue operations concluded around 9:50 pm. Authorities have initiated an investigation to determine the cause of the accident.

The NHSRCL confirmed the accident, stating, “At the bullet train project site on the Mahi River, laborers were trapped among concrete blocks. Rescue efforts with cranes and excavators are underway, with one worker rescued and receiving treatment at the hospital.” DeshGujarat
