Kanoria Centre for Arts to mark 40th anniversary with week-long celebrations

Ahmedabad: The Kanoria Centre for Arts (KCA), a pioneering institution dedicated to arts, culture and community, will undertake a week-long celebration to mark its 40th anniversary.

Founded in 1984 by Chairperson Urmila Kanoria, in collaboration with the acclaimed architect Dr. BV Doshi and the Ahmedabad Education Society, KCA has long supported emerging and established artists in a nurturing, non-profit environment. Since its inception, KCA has thrived as a creative and self-sustaining hub, dedicated to nurturing creativity across disciplines.

To commemorate the 40-year milestone, KCA is hosting a series of special events as part of an anniversary celebration titled “Open Spaces,” designed to welcome art lovers into KCA’s expansive campus.

Commenting on the landmark, Mrs. Urmila Kailash Kanoria, Chairperson, Kanoria Centre for Arts, said, “Kanoria Centre for Arts was born out of a vision to create a community that values creativity and cultural exchange. Over the last four decades, it has remained dedicated to enriching our artistic community. It fills me with pride to see how the Centre has grown, and I am deeply grateful to everyone who has contributed to making it a thriving hub of art and culture.”

The Centre’s 40th-anniversary celebration features various engaging events, including the inauguration of the Urmila Kailash Black Box by Sangita Jindal on Friday, November 15. The 1,656 sq ft multifunctional experimental space is designed to host a range of artistic and cultural activities, further enhancing KCA’s offerings to the arts community.

The celebrations will also feature “Portraits & Spaces: Balkrishna Doshi in His Own Creations”, a photographic exhibit by Vinay Panjwani that captures the essence of Dr. Doshi’s architectural masterpieces. It will be accompanied by a performance by renowned artist Manasi Karani and her ensemble in the Urmila Kailash Black Box.

Further, it will include “An Invitation to Our Dyeing Studio”, a special exhibition by Studio Medium in the Urmila Art Gallery, showcasing traditional and contemporary dyeing practices, and Tapestry of Space, a presentation of architecture models of BV Doshi’s works

Ms. Gargi Yadav, Honorary Director, Kanoria Centre for Arts, said, “The 40th anniversary is not only a celebration of the Centre’s legacy but also an opportunity to reaffirm our commitment to creativity and providing a space to explore and express. We hope to connect with the community through these events and showcase the spirit of collaboration that is at the heart of the Centre.”

All areas of the centre, such as the artist studios, art gallery, classrooms, museum, art shop & the Urmila Kailash Black Box, will be accessible for visitors to explore during the celebrations. DeshGujarat
