Surat: The local police have arrested Yusuf Teni, who attempted to run over a traffic constable with his Scorpio car. During the incident, the accused put the lives of six policemen in danger.

Yusuf, a history-sheeter, has four complaints registered against him—three in Surat city and one in Valsad’s Pardi. After his arrest, Yusuf was seen struggling to walk when brought to the police station.

The attack occurred earlier this week when the police were attempting to shut down shops near Chandhal Chowk. Teni initially abused the police constables. When Constable Gunjan, who was present at the scene, told Yusuf to leave the shop, he grabbed Gunjan by the belt and pushed him. Meanwhile, Constable Ritesh made a quick call, and the PCR van arrived to arrest Yusuf. However, Yusuf rammed the PCR van with his Scorpio and fled the scene.

The police registered a case against him and launched a search. The police later recovered his Scorpio car from Dadra and Nagar Haveli. After there was no diesel left in the vehicle, Yusuf abandoned the car and escaped to Silvassa. Upon receiving information that he was traveling by train to collect money and clothes, the police arrested him at Bhestan Railway Station, as he was traveling on a train coming from Valsad.
