Fire breaks out at ISKON Platinum residential high-rise in Bopal

Bopal: Fire broke out at Iscon Platinium residential building in Bopal area of Ahmedabad today evening. At least 12 fire fighter vehicles and 50 fire men reached the spot and started attempts to control the fire. Fire was put under control by the fire staffers. Nearly 100 persons were evacuated from the building according to the Fire Officer. A 56-year old Minaben Shah is dead in this incident. More than dozen persons were taken for medical treatment in Saraswati hospital. 14 of them are relieved, while 6 are under treatment as of today morning.

According to a local, the fire broke out due to bursting of crackers in the passenge of the building as today was the festival of Dev Diwali. However the Fire brigade sources told that the fire broke out in electric duct on 8th floor and gradually reached to further floors in this 22-storey high-rise. Fire broke out in ‘M’ block at around 11.30 pm as per Devang Dani, Chairman of Standing Committee in Amdavad Municipal Corporation(AMC). Fire entered a house on 17th floor, said a local resident Anil Mittal. He said the flat number 1701 was completely caught in fire and there was a child too inside, but all were rescued thanks to the Fire jawans. Mittal said he lives in 1704 number flat and he was among last to leave the building as a 87-year old mother had to be evacuated using stretcher.

Around dozen ambulances of 108 service were deployed at the spot. The persons mostly impacted by smoke and not fire, were taken to Saraswati hospital, while Sola Civil hospital was readied in case of more need of beds. A team member from 108 service told media persons that around 15 persons were taken to Saraswati hospital in their ambulances. He said the ambulances would return from hospital and reach the site of the incident to carry further prople to hospital in the next trip.

Chief Fire Officer, Additional Chief Fire Officer, Divisional Fire Officer, Standing Committee Chairman of AMC were among those present at the site. The same residential scheme had witnessed the incident of fire in the year 2020 as well.

The Chairman of the society, Dr. Kamlesh Vyas informed that the Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel phone called him to inquire about the incident and asked to feel free to call anytime during the night if any help is required.
