Ahmedabad: The National High-Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) is working on India’s first bullet train project. The Managing Director of the organization recently shared updates on the 508-km Mumbai-Ahmedabad corridor. He stated that 225 km of viaduct construction in Gujarat had been completed, work on stations was progressing rapidly, and the civil construction work in the Gujarat section would be completed by December 2025.
In a special interview with Sansad TV, the official parliamentary channel of India, Vivek Kumar Gupta, Managing Director of NHSRCL, said, “We are working on the 508-km-long Mumbai to Ahmedabad High-Speed Corridor, which is the nation’s first high-speed corridor. In this corridor, there will be 12 stations—8 in Gujarat and 4 in Maharashtra. I am happy to share that in the 350-km-long section in Gujarat, from Vapi to Sabarmati, where work began earlier, we have completed the construction of the viaduct over 225 km. Work on all 8 stations in the state is progressing rapidly, and we aim to complete the civil construction work on the Gujarat section by December 2025.”
“High-speed rail is a subject of great technological challenge as it involves quality, safety, and speed, which will be around 320 km/h in our corridor. Keeping these challenges in mind, the work of laying the track has also started. This is a meticulous process where our tolerance remains at plus or minus 1 millimeter. For this, imported machines and equipment have arrived from Japan,” he added.
Gupta further stated, “We have already sent our employees to Japan for training in around 13 special courses. They have received over a year of training, and now 300 more staff members will be sent to Japan for further training. Upon their return, they will train our entire workforce of around 3,000 individuals.”
“The lessons we have learned in this project regarding accuracy and quality will prove to be a milestone for the development of the country. Whether it is technological advancements, construction techniques, or construction methodology, we have gained significant knowledge in these areas and are implementing them in this project.”
“The President of India, in her speech in Parliament, mentioned three new high-speed corridors located in the East, North, and South. Work on the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for these corridors has started and will be completed soon, after which new corridors will be announced. We have a vision, a dream that as Bharat moves toward becoming the third-largest economy in the world, high-speed rail will play a very important role in this journey,” the NHSRCL MD further stated.
