88% water in reservoirs, sufficient for Rabi irrigation: Gujarat govt

Gandhinagar: The Gujarat government today informed that a sufficient volume of water is available in the reservoirs across the state for the supply of irrigation water for Rabi season sowing. The spokesperson minister, Rushikesh Patel, said 207 reservoirs in the state, including Sardar Sarovar, are having 88 percent storage of water, which is more than 7.85 lakh MCFT and which is 4 percent more compared to the same period the previous year. The minister further informed that North Gujarat-based reservoirs have 65% water storage, Central Gujarat – 92%, South Gujarat – 91%, Saurashtra – 86%, and the reservoirs in Kutch have 62% water storage. Gujarat’s lifeline, the Sardar Sarovar Narmada dam, has 90% water storage, he added, and said that in view of this situation, there’s sufficient water for irrigation in the state for the Rabi crop season.
