December 30, 2024
Amreli: The local police on Sunday arrested four individuals for tarnishing the reputation of BJP MLA Kaushik Vekariya, following a complaint filed by Kishor Kanpariya, president of the Amreli Taluka Panchayat. Kanpariya reported that his fake letterhead had been fabricated and used to circulate defamatory content about Vekariya.
The arrested individuals include Manish Vaghasiya, Ashok Mangroliya (sarpanch of Jasvantgadh village and a BJP worker), their associate Jeetu Khatra, and computer operator Payal Goti. Following their arrest, the accused were taken to Vaghasiya’s office in Amreli town for a crime scene reconstruction. Superintendent of Police Sanjay Kharat stated that the four accused acted in collusion. Further investigations are underway to trace the origin of the fake letterhead, identify other accomplices, and uncover the motive behind the act. The police have registered the case under multiple sections of the IPC and the Information Technology Act.
The FIR mentions a viral letter on social media containing serious allegations. The letter, allegedly created using a fake letterhead of the Taluka Panchayat president, was addressed to the state BJP office. It accused Vekariya of controlling the taluka panchayat’s administration, coercing Kanpariya to follow his instructions, favoring Congress supporters, alienating BJP workers, and maintaining a nexus with the police.
