Gujarat Cabinet Approves 9 New Municipal Corporations Operational With Immediate Effect

Gandhinagar: The Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel has approved the decision to form 9 new Municipal Corporations simultaneously in the state. Notifications for same will be out within a day or two. Urban area of Gujarat will increase beyond fifty percent after impementation of this decision. The Administrators will take over the governance of these  9 new Municipal Corporations and create wards and delimitations for elections of local body of self governance.

The state government had made an important announcement in the budget for the year 2024-25 to convert a total of 09 municipalities namely Navsari, Vapi, Anand, Nadiad, Mehsana, Surendranagar/Wadhwan, Morbi, Porbandar/Chhaya and Gandhidham into Municipal Corporations. The state cabinet has today approved the formation of these 9 Municipal Corporations and made them operational with immediate effect.

Giving the role of this decision of the State Cabinet meeting, Spokesperson Minister Shri Hrishikeshbhai Patel said that  Gujarat has a total of 08 Municipal Corporations  currently functioning including Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara, Rajkot, Bhavnagar, Junagadh, Jamnagar and Gandhinagar. Out of these, Junagadh Municipal Corporation was formed in the year 2002 and Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation in the year 2010.

After that, after about 14 years, these new 9 Municipal Corporations are being formed. As a result, twice the number of existing Municipal Corporations i.e. 17 Municipal Corporations have come into existence in the state in addition to 149 municipalities.

As per the decision of the Council of State, Navsari Municipality as well as Dantej, Dharagiri, Eru and Hansapore Gram Panchayats will be merged to form Navsari Municipal Corporation.

Gandhidham Municipality and Kidana, Galpadar, Antajal, Shinay, Meghpar-Borichi and Meghpar-Kumbhardi Gram Panchayats will be merged to form Gandhidham Municipal Corporation.

Morbi Municipality and Shaktasanala, Ravapara, Lilapar, Amreli, Nani Vavdi, Bhadiyad (Jawahar), Trajpar (Maliya Vanaliya), Mahendranagar (Indiranagar) and Madhapar/Vajepar OG Gram Panchayats will be merged to form Morbi Municipal Corporation.

Vapi Municipality and Balitha, Salvav, Chiri, Chharwada, Chanod, Karvad, Namdha, Chandor, Morai, Vatar, Kunta Gram Panchayats will be merged to form Vapi Municipal Corporation.

Anand, Vallabhvidyanagar and Karamsad Municipal Corporation as well as Mogri, Jitodia, Gamdi and Lambhvel Gram Panchayats will be merged to form Anand Municipal Corporation.

Mehsana Municipality as well as Fatepura, Ramosana, Ramosana N.A. area, Dediasan, Palavasana, Heduva Rajgar, Heduva Hanumant, Taleti and Lakhvad Gram Panchayats in addition to some survey numbered areas of Palodar, Panchot, Gilosan, Nugar, Sakhpurda and Lakhvad Gram Panchayats will be merged to form Mehsana Municipal Corporation.

Surendranagar/ Dudhrej/ Wadhwan Municipal Corporation as well as Khamisana, Kherali, Malod, Mulchand and Chamaraj Gram Panchayats will be merged to form Surendranagar Municipal Corporation.

Porbandar/Chhaya Municipality along with Vanana (Virpur), Digvijaygarh, Ratanpar and Jhawar Gram Panchayats will be merged to form Porbandar Municipal Corporation.

Nadiad Municipality along with Yoginagar, Pipalg, Dumral, Fatepura, Kamla, Manjipura, Dabhan, Bilodara, Uttarsanda and Tundel Gram Panchayats will be merged to form Nadiad Municipal Corporation.

The Spokesperson Minister  added that the conversion of Municipal Corporations/Gram Panchayats into Municipal Corporations will strengthen the administration with a quick, efficient and transparent process.Apart from this, basic facilities like roads, sewerage system, sanitation, clean drinking water, sewage treatment plant, health services, education, streetlights, gardens, community halls and transportation etc. will be available in a well-planned manner.The state government will provide all the necessary financial and administrative support to the citizens of the rural areas that are included in the municipality to get all the civic facilities in a timely and well-planned manner and it is the state government’s mission to ensure that the facilities of the people of this area increase manifold.The spokesperson minister further said that urban planning in the municipalities is done in an organized manner based on TP scheme, so the available land is utilized to the maximum extent. Land will be allotted for well-planned roads, commercial, educational, community, sports grounds.Becoming a municipal corporation will provide ample employment opportunities not only to the people living in it but also to the people living in the nearby areas. A wider range of services can be provided from a single center in these areas and the standard of living of the citizens will rise. Not only this, special projects like BRTS, Metro Rail, Riverfront will be implemented in the new municipal corporations from time to time, which will increase the well-being of the citizens and the ease of living .
