Hazira: The Gujarat Pollution Control Board(GPCB), an arm of the Gujarat Government has slapped a fine of Rs 1 crore on a multinational company AM/NS located in Hazira following a tragic incident where four employees lost their lives in a fire at the plant.
In addition to the hefty fine, the company had previously received a closure notice for its Corex-2 plant. As a humanitarian gesture, the company has announced a compensation of Rs 50 lakh to family of each deceased employee. Furthermore, the company has pledged to provide employment to one member from each of the bereaved families.
Four workers died in a fire on December 31, and their bodies were charred beyond recognition, necessitating DNA analysis. Later, when the results came, the family members refused to accept the bodies as the company had not announced any aid. However, after the intervention of the Deputy Commissioner of Police, the matter was settled.DeshGujarat
