Video explains latest status of Surat Multi-Modal Transportation Project

Surat: The Surat Multi-Modal Transportation Project is progressing rapidly as per its plan. The aim of this project is to create a new hub for passengers, offering better facilities and boosting commercial activities.

Speaking about the project, Western Railway CPRO Vineet Abhishek said, “Several works under this project have been completed, while many are still underway. One of the main aspects of the project is the construction of an elevated deck. The 145-meter by 85-meter elevated deck will connect the east and west sides while passing through all the platforms. This deck will provide a large space for passengers with a capacity of 2,000 passengers and serve as a commercial amenity hub.”

The first phase of the deck construction has already been completed, during which platform number 4 was closed temporarily. Now, the second phase of the project has commenced, requiring the closure of platforms 2 and 3. The CPRO also thanked the travelers of Surat for their support during the work on platform 4 and expressed hope for similar cooperation during the ongoing work on platforms 2 and 3.

Abhishek added that due to the closure of platforms 2 and 3, some trains have been shifted to Udhna station. “A total of 122 trains heading toward Mumbai and 79 trains heading toward Vadodara will halt at Udhna instead of Surat. Passengers can access details via QR codes and will also be continuously informed about the changes through print, electronic, and social media,” he said.

“To accommodate this shift, a new platform on the east side of Udhna station has been made operational. Facilities such as water, seating arrangements, a passenger announcement system, and lighting have been provided. This platform will serve as the origin and termination point for Antyodaya and MEMU trains. A new booking office with seven ticket counters, along with a holding area, security, and ticket-checking staff, has been set up for passenger convenience,” he added.

For long-distance travelers, 50 licensed porters (shayaks) have been shifted from Surat to Udhna. Additionally, 10 caterers have been permitted to provide catering services at platform number 6 at Udhna station.

The Railways has also set up help desks at several stations near Udhna and Surat. Lists of affected trains have been displayed at various locations for the convenience of passengers. DeshGujarat
