⇒ Devang Girish Vyas, the Additional Solicitor General for Gujarat, tendered his resignation to the Law Minister on Tuesday, stepping down from his position. He was also serving as the Additional Solicitor General for the Bombay High Court and has resigned from that post as well. Vyas, 48, was appointed as Additional Solicitor General of the Gujarat High Court on 30.06.2020 and was reappointed effective 30.06.2023. His three-year term was set to finish on 29.06.2026.
⇒ The Rajkot District Education Officer ordered a probe after a video of a father beating a student at St. Francis School in Jetpur city of Rajkot district went viral on social media. In the CCTV footage from the school lobby, a father is seen beating a student, slapping him five to six times, which caused nearby students and teachers to gather. The reason for the slaps is still unclear. This incident reportedly occurred on January 16, a week ago.
⇒ Surat police have filed a complaint against two individuals for allegedly extorting ₹6.35 lakhs from a parking contractor. The accused, Alpesh Donda and Lalit Donda, reportedly extorted ₹25,000 per month from the contractor, claiming that the parking shed he was running was illegal. They allegedly threatened the complainant, saying they were scribes and would expose him in the media if he refused to pay.
⇒ The Surat Fire Department has received a remote-controlled robot to assist in firefighting operations. This robot is equipped with a camera that provides a live feed to fire officials. It is designed to operate in areas prone to explosions during fire incidents and in places that are inaccessible to firefighters.
⇒ Three fake doctors practicing medicine without any degrees were arrested today in Surat. These individuals, who hail from West Bengal, were caught by Ichhapore police while practicing in Mora village, Hazira. A stock of allopathic medicines and injections was also seized during the raid.
⇒ Around 200 workers of a pharmaceutical company in Dholka staged a protest today after being laid off without notice. Several employees, who had been working at Cadila Pharmaceuticals for 15 to 20 years, alleged that older workers were being replaced by new hires. Dholka town police arrived at the scene and are investigating the matter.
⇒ The Jamnagar administration conducted a demolition drive today against illegal encroachments on the banks and riverbed of the Rangamati River. Four JCBs were used to raze several illegal structures, clearing 15,000 square meters of land. The operation was carried out in the presence of officers from the Estate Department, Electricity Department of Jamnagar Municipal Corporation, and police officials.
