ACB Gujarat Nets Policeman and Accomplice in Bribery Trap

Ahmedabad: In yet another crackdown on corruption, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) nabbed a policeman and his accomplice for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs. 50,000.

The accused have been identified as Bipin Bhai, a policeman stationed at Karnavati Police Chowki, Narol Police Station, Ahmedabad, and Balkrishna Mohanbhai Sharma, a resident of Shourya Residency, Narol.

According to the complaint, the victim was apprehended by the police with three bottles of foreign liquor within the jurisdiction of the Narol police station. Subsequently, he was taken to the Karnavati Police Chowki where accused policeman demanded a bribe of Rs. 5,00,000 to avoid filing a case and confiscating the victim’s scooter. After negotiations, the amount was settled at Rs. 70,000, of which Rs. 20,000 was collected on the spot, and the remaining Rs. 50,000 was to be paid to accused middleman Balkrishna.

However, the victim, unwilling to pay the bribe, approached the ACB. Based on the complaint, a trap was laid, and accused middleman was caught red-handed while accepting the bribe. Accused policeman, however, managed to evade capture.

The ACB team, led by Inspector D.N. Patel, executed the operation and recovered the entire bribe amount. The Superintendent of Police, K.B. Chudasama, supervised the operation. DeshGujarat
