Ahmedabad Police introduce QR code system for faster mobile theft recovery

Ahmedabad: The City Police have rolled out a QR code-based system to streamline the reporting and recovery of stolen mobile phones. This initiative enables victims to quickly file complaints with the City Crime Branch, enhancing the efficiency of retrieval efforts. In January alone, the police recovered 220 stolen mobile phones with the help of this system.

To file a complaint, victims can scan a QR code at their nearest police station and submit an online FIR. The information is instantly forwarded to specialized units for swift action. This new system follows the e-FIR initiative launched last year for stolen phones and vehicles and further simplifies the complaint process. Once the complaint is filed, it is directly sent to the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR), a national database used to track mobile devices.

According to DCP Crime Branch Ajit Rajian, the QR system allows the police to act quickly and recover stolen phones before they cross state or international borders.

Around 1,000 phones are stolen every month in the city, and the Crime Branch has dedicated teams equipped with advanced technology to trace and recover phones before they are smuggled. DeshGujarat
