Controversy erupts over hooter siren on Saurashtra University VC’s car

Rajkot: A controversy has erupted after a hooter siren was found installed atop the official car of Saurashtra University Vice Chancellor Dr. Utpal Joshi. Such sirens are permitted only for emergency and designated officials, prompting the RTO to issue a notice to the Vice Chancellor. As the Vice Chancellor of Saurashtra University is not an emergency official, the necessity of a siren on his vehicle remains a significant question.
Students on campus have criticized the move, suggesting that the Vice Chancellor should first understand the rules before installing a hooter.
Meanwhile, when questioned, instead of voluntarily removing the siren, he argued that Vice Chancellors of other universities also use vehicles with sirens. “I am against VIP culture. If the rule does not allow it, I will remove the siren. It is only for occasional use and can be helpful in emergencies,” said the Vice Chancellor.
In-charge RTO K.M. Khaped stated, “According to regulations, sirens can only be installed on rescue vehicles. The Chancellor’s car does not fall into this category, so he will be issued a notice and asked to provide an explanation.”
NSUI student leader Narendra Solanki remarked that the VC should not promote VIP culture. “Instead of installing sirens, he should focus on addressing issues in private colleges and working in the interest of students,” he stated. DeshGujarat
