Sanand to have another semiconductor plant; Groundbreaking next week

Sanand: Kens Technology is establishing a new OSAT (Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test) facility in Sanand. The groundbreaking ceremony for this new plant will take place during Gujarat Semiconnect 2025, scheduled from March 5 to 7, 2025.

The proposed unit will be set up with an investment of ₹3,300 crore and will have a production capacity of 60 lakh chips per day. The chips manufactured at this facility will serve a wide range of applications across various sectors, including industrial, automotive, electric vehicles, consumer electronics, telecom, and mobile phones.

In another development, the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of Gujarat, along with SEMI, the global semiconductor association, and the India Electronics and Semiconductor Association (IESA), has also announced the 19th edition of the IESA Vision Summit and Indian Semiconductors and Packaging Ecosystem Conference (ISPEC) 2025. The event will be held from March 5 to 7, 2025, in conjunction with Gujarat Semiconnect 2025. The conference will be jointly organized by the Gujarat State Electronics Mission (GSEM), SEMI, and IESA.

The announcement was made by Principal Secretary, Department of Science and Technology, Mona Khandhar, during a press briefing at the Secretariat in Gandhinagar.

This event, instrumental in shaping India’s semiconductor and Electronics System Design and Manufacturing (ESDM) sector, will be inaugurated by Chief Minister of Gujarat, Bhupendrabhai Patel, and Minister of Railways, Information & Broadcasting, and Electronics & Information Technology, Ashwini Vaishnaw, on March 5, 2025, at Mahatma Mandir Convention and Exhibition Centre, Gandhinagar.

The main theme of Gujarat Semiconnect 2025 will be “Silicon Gujarat: Powering India’s Semiconductor Revolution.” The event will focus on how a thriving semiconductor and ESDM sector can position India as a global leader in technology and manufacturing. It will emphasize attracting global investments, enhancing the capacity of local industries to integrate into the global value chain, promoting skill development through specialized training in high-tech and fast-growing sectors, and fostering ecosystem development to build a strong semiconductor hub in Gujarat.

The event will include the groundbreaking ceremony for Kens Technology’s new semiconductor facility in Gujarat, an MoU with Jabil Inc. for a Silicon Photonics facility, an MoU with TSMT for a new manufacturing unit, an MoU with Micron for an EHS initiative aligned with global CSR benchmarks, an MoU between Tata Electronics and IIT Gandhinagar, announcements on social infrastructure projects in Dholera, the release of the “Gujarat Semiconnect Conference 2024” report, the “Semiconductor Manufacturing Supply Chain” report by IESA, the launch of “Vision to Reality”—a” Make in India product by IESA—and several other key announcements.

The event will also feature keynote speeches and high-impact panel discussions with industry leaders, government policymakers, and technology researchers. Discussions will revolve around cutting-edge technologies, emerging industry trends, and transformative global collaborations aimed at revolutionizing India’s semiconductor design and manufacturing landscape.

Gujarat Semiconnect 2025 will witness the participation of 1,500+ representatives, 50+ keynote addresses, 250+ exhibitors, seven panel discussions, and six country-specific roundtables. The roundtables will include the India-Japan Roundtable, India-Taiwan Roundtable, India-Korea Roundtable, India-Singapore Roundtable, India-Netherlands Roundtable, and India-USA Roundtable, fostering global collaboration in the semiconductor and electronics sectors.

Delegates attending the event will also have the opportunity to explore Gujarat’s emerging semiconductor hubs with visits to Dholera and Sanand.

The ISPEC event, held alongside Gujarat Semiconnect 2025, will feature research sessions where 80 faculty members will present on 12 strategic research areas. Additionally, a Best Poster Award competition will be held, with over 150 Ph.D. and M.Tech. students showcasing their research.
