Gujarat Congress Chief calls for govt assistance to Surat Textile Market fire victims

Surat: A massive fire broke out at the Shivshakti Textile Market in Surat, causing extensive damage to the entire building. The market, which housed around 900 traders, was completely gutted, with most of the stock reduced to ashes.

Addressing the issue, Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee President and MP Shaktisinh Gohil urged the government to support the affected traders, emphasizing that many of them either lack insurance or have inadequate coverage. He pointed out that, historically, the government has provided financial aid in such accidental losses and called for similar assistance in this case.

As per an official release from the party, Gohil said, “The most painful thing is that the fire initially broke out at 1:30 pm. The fire brigade worked hard till evening, and it was believed that the fire was under control. There was some smoke, and according to traders, if proper precautions had been taken, this situation could have been avoided. Officials left assuming the fire was under control, but due to negligence, the smoldering fire reignited into strong flames, resulting in significant losses for the traders.”

He further stated, “Local Congress leaders have visited the site and briefed me about the difficulties faced by the affected people. Another team will also assess the situation and communicate the concerns to the government as a responsible opposition party. If the government needs assistance in relief efforts, Congress party workers will volunteer to help those affected.” DeshGujarat
