Gujarat ranks 2nd nationwide with installed renewable energy capacity of 31,482 MW: Minister

Gandhinagar: Responding to a question asked by an MLA in the Assembly, Minister of State for Climate Change, Mukesh Patel, said that Gujarat currently ranks second in the country with a total installed capacity of 31,482.79 MW of renewable energy.
Giving further details, the Minister said that the then Chief Minister and current Prime Minister of India, Narendrabhai Modi, was the first to establish the Climate Change Department in Gujarat in 2009. The state, with its 1,600 km-long coastline and favorable geographical conditions, provides ample opportunities for wind and solar energy. As a result, Gujarat generates a total of 31,482.79 MW of renewable energy, including 12,473.78 MW from wind power projects, 16,795.77 MW from solar power projects, 116.60 MW from biopower (biomass and waste-to-energy), 106.64 MW from small hydropower, and 1,990 MW from large hydropower, the Minister said.
