CBSE disaffiliates 14 schools in Gujarat

Gandhinagar: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has recently disaffiliated 14 schools in Gujarat, including four in Ahmedabad. Notably, while disaffiliation prevents these schools from admitting new students, it is unlikely to impact those already enrolled.

The disaffiliated schools in Ahmedabad are DLA Academy of Little People, The New Tulip International School, Nirman High School. The other 10 include two Kendriya Vidyalayas along with Sarojben Memorial International School, Rajdeep English School, Sunflower School in Jamnagar, Shri BM Kyada School and Aarya-Veer International School in Rajkot, Global Indian International School in Surat, Bhaskardyusti Vidyalaya in Valsad. The disaffiliation applies to specific sections, such as secondary or senior secondary, in all the affected schools.

This marks the highest number of disaffiliations by CBSE in Gujarat in a single instance, primarily due to non-compliance with regulations observed during inspections. Notably, New Tulip International School and Nirman High School in Ahmedabad were flagged in December 2024 for violating CBSE by-laws, particularly for allegedly enrolling ‘non-attending’ students.

The list of affected schools has been published on the School Affiliation Re-engineered Automation System (SARAS) 5.0 website. However, the SARAS website has yet to specify the reasons for disaffiliation, and factors beyond poor attendance may have contributed.

Experts believe this move is likely to discourage dummy admissions. One educationist stated that, following this action, students are now more likely to continue in the same schools they attended until Class 10, rather than switching to those linked with coaching institutes.

With CBSE enforcing stricter regulations, regular board-affiliated schools expect to regain credibility and attract more students. DeshGujarat
