Foundation stone laid for Kaynes OSAT Evara Semiconductor plant in Sanand

Gandhinagar: Sanand in Gujarat is set to get another Semiconductor unit. The foundation stone-laying ceremony for Kaynes Semicon OSAT Evara Semicon Centre was performed today virtually by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel at the Gujarat Seconnect conference in Mahatma Mandir here. The plant will come up at the GIDC area in Sanand, where Micron’s semiconductor plant is also being developed.
On this occasion, the company announced that the production of semiconductor chips is going to start in June 2025 through the pilot manufacturing line at this semiconductor OSAT plant of Kaynes in Sanand and in January 2026 through the main manufacturing line. Kaynes announced that it is establishing a 1.80 lakh square ft facility at Sanand GIDC with an annual capacity of 2.3 billion units. Pilot line will be up in June 2025, and the plant one will be ready in January 2026.
Kaynes, a technology and integrated electronics solutions provider (Kaynes circuit PCB plus EMS and Kaynes Semicon OSAT), is valued at approximately five billion dollars. It has achieved over 40 percent CAGR growth in recent years with a global presence. Kaynes Semicon partnership with APS for assembly, packaging, and testing power MOSFETs, IGBTs, and IPMs semiconductor products. Kaynes has partnered with IIT Gandhinagar, NAMTECH Sanand, IIT Bombay, DY Patil University Pune, IIT Kanpur, W Beyond Telangana, SASTRA University Thanjavur, and MACDERMID Alpha Chennai for capacity building.
Kaynes has partnered with the Indian government arms ISRO, Railways – Kawach, Aerospace and Defence, Rudra+C-DAC, and for semiconductor and OSAT expansion.
It was reported in August 2024 that Electronics manufacturing company Kaynes Technology acquired land in Sanand to establish its outsourced semiconductor assembly and test (OSAT) unit and the company plans to invest around Rs 5,000 crore in this chip project.
The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi in September 2024 approved the proposal of Kaynes Semicon Pvt Ltd to setup a semiconductor unit in Sanand, Gujarat. It was announced that the proposed unit will be setup with an investment of Rs 3,300 crore and the capacity of this unit will be 60 Lakh chips per day.
The chips produced in this unit will cater to a wide variety of applications which include segments such as industrial, automotive, electric vehicles, consumer electronics, telecom, mobile phones, etc.
In June, 2023, the Union Cabinet had approved the first proposal for setting up a semiconductor unit in Sanand, Gujarat. In February, 2024, three more semiconductor units were approved. Tata Electronics is setting up a semiconductor fab in Dholera, Gujarat and one semiconductor unit in Morigaon, Assam. CG Power is setting up one semiconductor unit in Sanand, Gujarat
