Rajkot: A petrol pump in Bhilwas, Rajkot, has been sealed by the Weights and Measures Department after an inspection revealed that it was dispensing less fuel than what customers were paying for. The surprise check uncovered that the pump was shortchanging customers by approximately 30-35 milliliters for every five liters of petrol or diesel.

The Weights and Measures team, led by Assistant Controller of Legal Metrology, B.D. Chauhan, conducted the inspection at Eagle Petroleum in Bhilwas following complaints of fuel discrepancies. The inspection revealed that the pump’s nozzles were deliberately configured to dispense less fuel, even for smaller quantities.

As a result, two petrol nozzles and one diesel nozzle were sealed, effectively stopping fuel sales at the pump. The department will now file a case against the pump operator and impose a fine.

“During the inspection at Eagle Petroleum in Bhilwas, it was found that customers were being given less fuel than what they were paying for. Specifically, there was a shortage of 30-35 milliliters per five liters,” stated B.D. Chauhan. “The nozzles were set up to dispense less fuel, even for one liter. We have sealed two petrol and one diesel nozzle and stopped sales. A case will be filed, and a fine will be levied.”

This action comes after a state-wide crackdown by the Weights and Measures Department last week, where raids were conducted on 183 hotels and restaurants, resulting in fines of ₹4.63 lakh. DeshGujarat
