Abdasa and Lakhpat to get Narmada irrigation water

Gandhinagar: Responding to a question regarding the distribution of Narmada water for irrigation in Abdasa and Lakhpat talukas of Kutch district, Minister of State for Water Resources and Water Supply, Mukesh Patel, stated that various schemes are being implemented under the distribution of an additional 1 million acre-feet of floodwater from the Narmada. As part of this initiative, the distribution of 0.506 million acre-feet of additional floodwater under Phase 1 and Phase 2 is currently in progress.
The Minister further mentioned that preliminary planning is underway to obtain 0.182 million acre-feet of additional floodwater by extending the Kutch branch canal from Modkuba and distributing it through the irrigation schemes of Abdasa and Lakhpat talukas.
Once this is completed, a survey will be conducted to extend the Kutch branch canal from Modkuba and implement irrigation projects in Abdasa and Lakhpat talukas. Detailed planning will be carried out regarding the project’s alignment, beneficial areas, various aspects, and estimated costs, he added.
Providing details about Phase 1 of the additional 1 million acre-feet floodwater distribution in Kutch, the Minister stated that the Saran Link Pipeline project is being executed at an approximate cost of Rs. 720 crore. This includes the construction of two pumping stations and 72 km of pipeline, benefiting 29,000 hectares across eight villages in Rapar taluka.
Similarly, discussing Phase 1 of the Southern Link Pipeline, the Minister mentioned that six pumping stations and 158 km of pipeline are being constructed at an estimated cost of Rs. 2,029 crore. This project will benefit 38,824 hectares across 47 villages in Mundra, Bhuj, Mandvi, and Anjar talukas, covering 25 irrigation schemes.
Meanwhile, in the first phase of the Northern Link Pipeline, four pumping stations and 106 km of pipeline are being built at an estimated cost of Rs. 1,419 crore. This initiative will benefit 12 irrigation schemes, covering 36,392 hectares across 22 villages in Bhuj and Nakhatrana talukas, the Minister stated.
Providing details about Phase 2, the Minister explained that in the second phase of the Southern Link Pipeline, nine pumping stations and 212 km of pipeline are under construction at an estimated cost of Rs. 1,368 crore. This will benefit 36,514 hectares across 28 villages in Mandvi, Nakhatrana, Lakhpat, and Abdasa talukas, including 28 irrigation schemes.
Similarly, in the second phase of the Northern Link Pipeline, five pumping stations and 120 km of pipeline are being constructed at an estimated cost of Rs. 848 crore. This project will benefit 31,681 hectares across 25 villages in Nakhatrana and Lakhpat talukas, covering 13 irrigation schemes, the Minister added. DeshGujarat
