Two gamblers die after jumping into Tapi River from Causeway to escape police

Surat: Two individuals died after jumping into the Tapi River from the Causeway while trying to escape the police. The individuals were gambling at the Causeway when the police arrived. Upon seeing the officers, the two men jumped into the river in an attempt to escape but drowned.
The police and fire brigade team reached the location and recovered their bodies before transferring them to Surat Civil Hospital for a post-mortem.
The deceased have been identified as 54-year-old Gulam Nabi Gulam Mohammad Safeda and 45-year-old Amin. Their families reached the Civil Hospital and alleged that the deaths were due to police negligence.
Meanwhile, it has come to light that the two, along with 8-10 others, were gambling in buses on the Tapi River bank. When the police arrived for patrolling, they attempted to flee and jumped into the river. However, due to high tide, they drowned and died.
