RTI activist held for extorting two industrialists of Sachin GIDC

Surat: As part of an ongoing campaign against RTI activists and bogus journalists involved in extortion and intimidation under the guise of activism, Sachin GIDC police have filed two separate complaints against Jashwant Brahmabhatt. According to the complaints, Brahmabhatt allegedly threatened two industrialists, demanded ₹50,000 from each, and extorted ₹15,000 from them. Despite receiving the money, he continued making threats and demanded more, prompting a formal complaint at the request of the GIDC Association.

According to Sachin GIDC police, multiple complaints had been received against a self-proclaimed journalist who was allegedly using his RTI activist status to extort money related to ongoing construction in the industrial estate. In response, authorities launched a campaign to curb illegal extortion.

Meanwhile, Avin Hemantbhai Sukhramwala, a resident of Saindarshan Society in Rander Tadwadi, filed a complaint against Jashwant Amritlal Brahmabhatt, who claimed to be a journalist. The complaint alleged that Brahmabhatt, at knifepoint, demanded ₹50,000, stating that the shed in Sukhramwala’s factory in GIDC was illegal and violated regulations. Fearing for his safety, Sukhramwala paid ₹15,000. However, Brahmabhatt continued to demand more money. Following the complaint, the police registered a case and arrested him.

In another incident, Paresh Bhikhubhai Movaliya, a resident of Amar Swapna Society in Sachin, also filed a complaint against Brahmabhatt. Movaliya, who owns a textile factory named Akshar Fab on Road No. 43 of GIDC, alleged that Brahmabhatt harassed him over the construction of a shed in his factory, claiming it was against regulations. Using RTI applications as a tool for intimidation, Brahmabhatt demanded ₹50,000. To stop the harassment, Movaliya paid ₹15,000.

The police have registered complaints from both industrialists and arrested Jashwant Amritlal Brahmabhatt (47), a resident of Empire Residency, Dindoli, originally from Koroda, Chanasma, in Patan district. DeshGujarat
