18 children rescued from street begging rackets in Ahmedabad

Ahmedabad: The She Teams of the city police have rescued 18 children from street begging gangs and potential human traffickers as part of a special crackdown on begging activities. Over three days, police investigated whether children engaged in begging were victims of trafficking, drug abuse, or coercion.

She Teams from all police stations in Ahmedabad took part in the coordinated effort, patrolling various areas, rescuing 18 minors, and initiating legal action under the Juvenile Justice Act, 2015, against those forcing them to beg. The rescued children received medical care during the operation.

Meanwhile, the state home department has taken charge of their rehabilitation, and a She Team, in a joint effort with the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC), will ensure the children receive proper education, nutrition, and healthcare support. DeshGujarat
