Rajkot Rajkumar Jat death case: Private luxury bus hit Gondal youth, driver nabbed
March 14, 2025
Rajkot: Days after the death of a Bhilwara youth residing in Gondal, the police have confirmed that he died after being hit by a bus.
Rajkumar, son of Ratanlal Jat from Bhilwara, had been living in Gondal. He went missing on March 2, the same day he and his father allegedly had an altercation with security personnel outside the residence of Gondal MLA Geetaba Jadeja.
Later, Rajkumar’s body was found in the mortuary of Rajkot Hospital. The police had discovered it on March 4 on the Rajkot-Ahmedabad Highway. Rajkumar was preparing for the UPSC exams. Following this, his father accused former Gondal MLA Jayrajsinh and his son Ganesh of murder.
However, Rajkot DCP Crime Parthrajsinh Gohil stated that the youth was identified on March 9. As the body was found on the road, a road accident case was registered. Given the controversy surrounding the case, Police Commissioner Brijesh Kumar Jha and Additional Police Commissioner Mahendra Bagadia directed the formation of multiple investigation teams, including SOG, Kuvadva Road Police Station, LCB, and Zone-1.
During the investigation, officials reviewed more than 150 CCTV cameras within a 4-5 km radius. A dumper driver provided crucial information, stating that when he passed the location at 2:33 AM, he saw a body lying on the road. Based on this, authorities suspected a bus from Mahasagar Travels (bus number 3131). Further inquiries revealed that the accident likely occurred between 2:15 and 2:30 AM on March 4.
The driver of the bus, questioned with the help of Junagadh Police, later admitted that he accidentally hit a pedestrian walking in the middle of the road while descending from a bridge at night. However, he initially told his employer that a Nilgai (antelope) had come in front of the bus, a statement he later admitted was false.
Forensic experts have examined the bus, and Rajkot City Police continue to investigate other aspects of the case. Meanwhile, Rajkumar’s father and villagers have demanded a second postmortem, but their request was denied.
Ratanlal Jat, originally from Jabariya village in Sahada town, Bhilwara district, has been selling pav bhaji in Gondal, Gujarat, for 30 years. His son, Rajkumar, had been preparing for the UPSC exams. The family remains unconvinced by the police investigation and continues to demand justice. DeshGujarat
