ACB nabs state tax officer for accepting ₹15,000 bribe in Surat

Surat: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) of Gujarat today nabbed one Nilesh Patel, a State Tax Officer (Class-2) posted at Rajyakar Bhavan, Surat, red-handed while accepting a ₹15,000 bribe.
According to ACB officials, the complainant, a businessman who regularly pays taxes, was entitled to a lawful tax refund. Patel allegedly demanded ₹15,000 to process the refund. Unwilling to pay the bribe, the complainant approached ACB Surat, which set up a trap.
During the operation, Patel accepted the bribe inside his chamber at Rajyakar Bhavan, Surat, and was caught red-handed. The entire amount of ₹15,000 was recovered from him. Further investigations are underway. DeshGujarat
