2 held at Ahmedabad airport for smuggling gold worth ₹2.76 crore

Ahmedabad: The Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) has seized over 3 kg of gold worth approximately ₹2.76 crore from two passengers arriving from Abu Dhabi at Ahmedabad airport. The passengers had concealed the gold in plastic strips attached to the waistbands of their jeans. The smuggled gold was brought in a semi-liquid form mixed with chemicals.
During the inspection, officials found two gold chains, a gold coin, and one gold bar in their possession, along with the hidden semi-liquid gold in their jeans. As per the preliminary information, one passenger was carrying 1,543 grams of gold, while the other had 1,507 grams. Both individuals have been detained, and further investigation is underway.
