Double Toll Charges at Pithadiya Toll Plaza in Jetpur; Business Associations Threaten Agitation

Jetpur: Local vehicle owners in Jetpur are up in arms over a doubling of toll charges at the Pithadiya Toll Plaza. The toll, previously ₹10, has been increased to ₹20, triggering widespread anger among commuters.

The Jetpur Chamber of Commerce and the Dyeing and Printing Association have condemned the hike. Representatives from both organizations visited the toll plaza and demanded the increase be rolled back within two days. They warned of an agitation involving various local organizations if their demand is not met.

Jaintibhai Ramolia, President of the Jetpur Dyeing and Printing Association, stated, “We have given the toll plaza two days to reverse the hike. If no decision is made within this timeframe, we will launch a vigorous protest, involving political leaders and other organizations.”

The associations claim that when the Pithadiya Toll Plaza was initially being constructed, local vehicle owners were promised a lifetime toll charge of ₹5. However, the toll was initially set at ₹7, then increased to ₹10, and now, three months ago, doubled to ₹20.

“We had protested against this earlier,” Ramolia explained. “The Highway Authority had verbally assured us that the ₹10 charge would remain. But this promise was broken, and now they’ve doubled it again.” DeshGujarat
