March 27, 2025
Surat: The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has taken action against two traders in Surat for selling toys manufactured without a valid BIS license. On Tuesday, the BIS team from Surat raided two godowns in the Dabholi area and seized 13,950 toys.
The raids were conducted at godowns belonging to M/s Addicade Enterprise and M/s Eco Enterprise, located at Shubham Heights in Dabholi. During the raids, it was discovered that the traders were selling toys manufactured without a BIS license. The operation was carried out following information received by S.K. Singh, Senior Director and Head of BIS, Surat.
S.K. Singh stated that as per the order issued by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India, on February 25, 2020, the ISI mark has been made mandatory for toys intended for children under 14 years of age, effective from January 1, 2021. This means that no manufacturer or trader can produce, sell, or store toys without the ISI mark and a valid BIS license.
Violations of this rule will result in action under Section 17 of the BIS Act 2016. The penalties for such offenses include imprisonment for up to two years, a fine of at least two lakh rupees, or both.
The operators of the two godowns have been identified as Kushilkumar Diyora and Himmat Lathiya. The BIS has initiated legal proceedings against them.DeshGujarat
