Gujarat govt amends admission rules for diploma to degree engineering courses

Gandhinagar: The Gujarat government has announced amendments to the Diploma in Engineering Courses to Bachelor of Engineering and Technology Courses (Regulation of Admission and Payment of Fees) Rules, 2024. The amendments, notified by the Education Department, aim to bring flexibility to eligibility criteria for diploma holders seeking admission to degree engineering courses.

As per the revised rules, the requirement that candidates must have passed the qualifying examination in the immediate previous academic year has been removed. Instead, candidates who have cleared their diploma in any academic year will now be eligible for admission. Additionally, the provision that gave priority to candidates who completed their diploma in the immediate previous academic year has been deleted.

The amendments affect Rule 5, which outlines eligibility for admission to government seats in degree engineering courses. Now, candidates who meet the prescribed minimum aggregate marks and have appeared in the Diploma to Degree Common Entrance Test (DDCET) for the corresponding year will be considered for admission, irrespective of when they completed their diploma.

The changes are expected to benefit a larger pool of diploma holders, allowing them greater flexibility in pursuing higher education without the constraint of a time-bound eligibility period. The revised rules have come into effect from the date of their publication in the official gazette. DeshGujarat
