Deesa Firecrackers Godown Blast Tragedy: Gujarat govt Constitutes a Probe Committee

Gandhinagar: The Government of Gujarat has formed a probe committee after 21 people died in a blast in a firecracker factory in the GIDC estate in Deesa in Banaskantha district of North Gujarat.

The committee will need to submit its report in 15 days. The committee is headed by the Secretary of Land Reforms, Department of Revenue, IAS Bhavin Pandya.

The committee has Vishalkumar Vaghela (DySP), HP Sanghavi (Director FSL, Gandhinagar), and JA Gandhi (Chief Engineer, Road and Buildings department) as its members.

The committee will probe into the circumstances leading to the blast, whether there was approval to start this cracker factory from the local authority, whether separate approval is required for the storage of explosive substances, whether such approval was obtained, whether any action was taken if such approval was not taken, whether the Explosive Act and Rules were followed, whether the Factory Act rules were followed, whether the Labor law and Child Labor law were followed, whether the construction rules were followed, whether the fire NOC and fire safety system were in place, whether the local administration conducted inspections regularly, and who were the persons responsible in connection with the lapses.
