Vadodara: The Sayajiganj police have arrested a Maulana who allegedly filmed a woman while she was bathing in a bathroom in the Fateganj area of Vadodara city. A case has been registered against the accused, Haroon Pathan, and further legal action is underway. The complainant has demanded strict punishment, stating that such behavior by a religious figure is highly inappropriate.

The 28-year-old woman, a resident of Fateganj, works as a domestic helper, while her husband is employed as a driver. On Friday afternoon, around 1:30 PM, the woman went to take a bath while her mother-in-law was offering prayers at home. Suddenly, she spotted a mobile phone placed near the bathroom vent and realized someone was filming her.

“I went to take a bath and poured water over myself when I saw a camera pointed at me. It was recording. I shouted for my mother-in-law and said someone was in the house. I found a mobile phone in the bathroom. When my mother-in-law went out, the man ran away. His name is Haroon, and he is a Maulana who lives near our house,” the woman said.

Initially, neighbors did not believe her and accused her of lying. “I said, why would I risk my own reputation? So, we checked the CCTV footage near our house, which clearly showed him,” she added. “It is not acceptable for a Maulana to do such a thing. He should be punished severely.”

Upon reviewing the CCTV footage, it was confirmed that the person seen was Maulana Haroon Hafiz Ali Pathan, a resident of Kalyannagar Vuda House.

Though Haroon fled the area after the incident, around 9 PM that night, two individuals brought him to the woman’s house to apologize. However, when the woman mentioned filing a police complaint, Haroon left immediately but was later nabbed by the police.

Police investigations revealed that Maulana Haroon was studying at a madrasa in Kalyannagar and also performed religious rituals. Sayajiganj police have registered a case and are recording statements from multiple individuals as part of the ongoing investigation. DeshGujarat
