Rajkot hottest in Gujarat at 44.2°C; Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Surat all above 40°C today

Rajkot: The weekend ended with Monday, but the scorching heat does not seem to end for the people of Gujarat, with a heat wave prevailing in many pockets. Rajkot city in the Saurashtra region recorded the highest temperature of the day at a scorching 44.2°C, making it the hottest city in the state. Surendranagar followed closely at 44.0°C, while Amreli touched 43.8°C. Other cities also witnessed extreme heat, as Deesa recorded 43.2°C, and Bhuj, Ahmedabad, and Gandhinagar each logged 42.9°C. Surat, which is one of the four largest cities of the state and a coastal city, also witnessed hot weather at 40.4°C.
According to the latest IMD weather bulletin on April 7, these temperatures are significantly above normal for this time of year. Rajkot reported a departure of 5.2°C above normal, while Gandhinagar and Deesa were also 4.8°C above normal. Mercury was also 4.3°C above normal in Surat. On the other hand, the weather department has issued a heat wave warning in several cities till Thursday, i.e., April 10.
