Rajkot Civil Hospital sets up special ward for heatwave emergencies

Rajkot: With temperatures soaring above 40°C in the city, Rajkot Civil Hospital has made special arrangements to tackle potential medical emergencies caused by the ongoing heatwave. A 20-bed special ward has been set up at the hospital to treat patients suffering from heat-related conditions. Three medical officers and two resident doctors have been assigned to this ward, located in the Emergency Department.
Public Relations Officer of the Hospital, M.C. Chavda, said that the hospital has appointed dedicated doctors to handle heatwave-related cases. The 20-bed ward has been arranged in the PMSS building, equipped with necessary staff and essential medicines.
Patients showing symptoms of heatstroke—such as dehydration, vomiting, and diarrhea—will first be treated by the on-duty medical officers and resident doctors available 24/7 in the emergency department before being shifted to the special ward if the condition persists.
Authorities have advised citizens to avoid going outdoors between 12 noon and 5 pm. If going out is necessary, people should wear cotton clothes that fully cover the body and stay hydrated by consuming fluids every 15 minutes. DeshGujarat
