AMC to build Ahmedabad Haat, working women’s hostel near YMCA Club, Makarba

Ahmedabad: The Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has unveiled plans to develop an ‘Ahmedabad Haat’ near the YMCA Club in the Makarba area, with an estimated investment of ₹12.69 crore. Designed to support small businesses, artisans, and skilled professionals, the project aims to promote local craftsmanship and entrepreneurship.

The two-storey structure will include facilities such as a ticket counter, office space, reception, open cafeteria, amphitheatre, stalls, shops, an art gallery, an exhibition hall, and a restaurant. Visitors will also have access to basement parking, washrooms on each floor, and drinking water provisions. The project is scheduled for completion within 18 months.

Additionally, AMC plans to set up a working women’s hostel on the same premises. The hostel will provide secure lodging and meals for women moving to Ahmedabad for employment opportunities. It will accommodate 196 women. Initially allocated ₹6.21 crore, the project’s budget is expected to nearly double to around ₹15 crore due to the expansion of proposed facilities. The state government will be bearing the entire cost of this project. A fresh tender will be floated for the updated plan. DeshGujarat
