Maximum temperature dips below 40°C across Gujarat, except Rajkot
April 12, 2025
Ahmedabad: Gujarat witnessed a sudden dip in temperatures on Friday, giving citizens a much-needed respite from the scorching heat. Ahmedabad’s maximum temperature fell sharply from 43.3°C on Thursday to 37.8°C — a drop of nearly 5°C. Light morning and evening breezes added to the comfort. Across the state, maximum temperatures remained below 40°C, with the exception of Rajkot, which recorded the highest at 40.3°C.
According to the weather report by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Vadodara recorded a daytime temperature of 36.8°C, Surendranagar stood at 39.3°C, and Kandla registered 38.8°C. Being a coastal city, Surat remained relatively cooler with the mercury settling at 32.8°C. Bhavnagar recorded a maximum temperature of 39°C; however, the city also experienced an unusual rain shower in the afternoon.
As per the IMD, the relief from the heat is likely to continue over the weekend, with a brief dip of 2–3°C expected. However, starting April 15, temperatures are forecast to rise again, reaching 40–44°C in parts of Gujarat.
Isolated heatwave conditions are likely between April 15 and 17, particularly in northern and coastal regions. A yellow alert has been issued for Banaskantha and Sabarkantha on April 15, with Rajkot and Kutch added to the warning list for April 16 and 17. Coastal districts may also experience a combination of soaring temperatures and high humidity. DeshGujarat
