Gujarat BJP slams Congress for playing ‘victim card’ over National Herald case

Gandhinagar: State BJP vice president Gordhan Zadafia on Wednesday accused the Congress party of “playing the victim card” to shield its leaders by staging nationwide protests over the National Herald case.

Addressing the media at the BJP’s state headquarters in Gandhinagar, Zadafia said the investigation is ongoing, and both Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, who are currently out on bail, should present proof of their innocence. He recalled that Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge was questioned in April 2022, along with the recording of statements from Sonia and Rahul Gandhi.

Zadafia criticised the Congress for spreading false narratives, saying the National Herald case dates back to 2011-12 when the Congress was in power, and it should have addressed the matter then. In line with the nationwide protests, the local Congress unit held a dharna outside the Enforcement Directorate (ED) office in the city’s Gurukul area. Meanwhile, state government spokesperson and cabinet minister Rushikesh Patel asserted that the ED acts independently and is not misused politically. He said both Union and state governments are committed to tackling corruption, and political parties try to portray themselves as victims when legal action is taken.
