SGCCI forms Diamond Task Force to revive Surat’s gems and jewellery sector

Surat: In response to the ongoing slump in global diamond markets, the Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SGCCI) on Friday announced the creation of a Diamond Task Force (DTF) aimed at revitalising Surat’s gems and jewellery industry. Dinesh Navadiya, chairman of the Indian Diamond Institute, has been appointed to lead the task force.

During the launch meeting, members outlined plans to bolster the industry through exhibitions, vendor development, foreign delegations, and high-profile events such as fashion shows and award ceremonies. SGCCI president Nikhil Madrasi stated that DTF aims to host at least 10 events annually, including large-scale expos like the India Jewellery Show. The task force will also focus on technology upgrades, market expansion, and international outreach. SGCCI vice-president Ashok Jirawala added that global buyer-seller meets and roadshows are also planned.

Dinesh Navadiya emphasised DTF’s role in building branding and marketing strategies for both domestic and international markets, while also advancing skill development and innovation. Industry players like Pintu Dholakia stressed the importance of training youth in diamond processing, design, and gemology through workshops and short courses.

The meeting saw participation from key industry bodies, including the Surat Diamond Association (SDA), Lab-Grown Diamond Association (LGDA), GJEPC, Surat Jewellery Manufacturers Association, and others. DeshGujarat
