Congress plans to finalise appointment of Gujarat district chiefs by May 31
April 17, 2025
Ahmedabad: The Congress party aims to complete the appointment of its district leadership in Gujarat by May 31, with plans to implement the Kerala model, where district leaders participate in door-to-door fundraising efforts.
It is learned that the party has instructed its AICC and state observers to spend two weeks in the districts assigned to them, conducting interviews at the block and booth levels. “We plan to implement the Kerala model, where our DCCs will also engage in grassroots-level fundraising for the party. The leaders overseeing the appointments have been directed to follow an eight-step procedure to choose potential candidates. They must submit their report to the state president by May 15, after which the state president and general secretary will refine the list, ensuring a balance in caste, gender, and community representation. The final proposal will then be forwarded to the Congress president for approval, with the entire process expected to be completed by May 31,” a senior party leader told the media.
Additionally, a political affairs committee will be formed in each district, and unit heads will be invited to participate in central election committee (CEC) meetings to share their views before finalizing candidates for the state elections.
A five-member team, including an AICC observer and four PCC observers, is overseeing the appointment of 41 new district chiefs in Gujarat. The party considers this exercise a pilot project, which will eventually be implemented nationwide. DeshGujarat
