Gujarat govt to buy Chickpea and Mustard crops at MSP from April 21

Gandhinagar: In Gujarat, the purchase of chickpea and mustard crops at the Minimum Support Price (MSP) will begin from April 21st. Under the PM Asha scheme of the Government of India, the state government buys various crops from farmers at the MSP every year to ensure that farmers get fair prices for their crops.

Regarding the purchase of chickpea and mustard crops, Agriculture Minister Raghavji Patel stated that the Government of India has set the MSP for chickpea at Rs. 5,650 per quintal and for mustard at Rs. 5,950 per quintal for the 2024-25 Rabi season. As a result, farmers in the state have cultivated chickpea and mustard in abundance, confident of fair prices. More than 3.36 lakh farmers in the state have registered online for selling chickpeas and more than 1.18 lakh farmers have registered for selling mustard.

The state government will buy chickpeas from the 179 designated purchase centers and mustard from the 87 designated purchase centers at the MSP. As per the approval under the Price Support Scheme (PSS) by the Government of India, a total of 3.36 lakh metric tons of chickpeas worth Rs. 1,903 crore and 1.29 lakh metric tons of mustard worth Rs. 767 crore will be purchased from farmers, Minister Patel added.
