Majority residents of Satellite society move Gujarat HC against redevelopment project
April 17, 2025
Ahmedabad: In an unusual turn of events, a majority of residents from a Gujarat Housing Board (GHB) society in the Satellite area have approached the Gujarat High Court to oppose a redevelopment project they once supported. Over 120 out of 204 members of Parishram Nagar Vibhag-1 have raised objections after receiving eviction notices in March. They claim they were misled into consenting to a tripartite redevelopment deal involving GHB, developer Sun Buildcon, and a society committee including the president and secretary, whose authority is now under question.
The residents allege that the original committee failed to share complete details of the redevelopment plan. Although 191 members had earlier agreed, the petitioners now argue that their consent was not fully informed. They also claim that a newly elected society committee has been ignored by both the GHB and the developer. Further, they object to the improper delivery of eviction notices. In response, the GHB stated that 60 members have already vacated and accused the dissenters of backtracking. The High Court has asked GHB to submit full redevelopment details and scheduled the next hearing for April 24. DeshGujarat
