Ahmedabad DEO orders schools to conclude classes before 12 noon

Ahmedabad: In view of the rising temperatures, the District Education Officer (DEO) has instructed all schools, from pre-primary to Class 8, to wrap up their daily activities by noon. Schools have been directed to limit academic sessions to morning hours only, with outdoor classes strictly prohibited during the summer.

These measures are part of the Heatwave Action Plan, and follow earlier advisories issued by the relief commissioner’s office and the revenue department. Schools governed by the education department are required to strictly comply. DEO Rohit Chaudhary has also asked schools to raise awareness among students about heatwave safety. Authorities will conduct regular inspections to ensure adherence. The revised schedule will remain in effect until the end of the annual examinations.

DEO Rohit Chaudhary told the media, “Temperatures in Ahmedabad are rising, and we’ve received complaints that some primary and kindergarten schools are operating until 1 or 2 PM, which is completely unacceptable. We have issued clear orders that no school should remain open after 12 noon. We believe children can manage the heat until noon, and since the summer vacation is near, schools should be able to adjust accordingly. Inspections will be conducted, and strict action will be taken against any school found operating beyond the specified time.” DeshGujarat
