Irregularities in clinical research at V.S. General Hospital; Associate Professor suspended

Ahmedabad: Serious irregularities have been unearthed in clinical research activities at Sheth V.S. General Hospital, with findings revealing that the ethical committee was not formed in accordance with the guidelines of the National Medical Commission (NMC) and the Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI).

The research conducted during the tenure of the then Medical Superintendent was found to be non-compliant with regulatory norms. Following this, the Medical Superintendent submitted a report to the Municipal Commissioner. In response, a high-level committee comprising the Dean of NHL Medical College, the Medical Superintendent of Sheth V.S. General Hospital, and the Director of Vigilance (AMC) was constituted to investigate the matter.

After a detailed inquiry, the committee found irregularities in both clinical research practices and financial transactions. The committee has submitted its report to the Municipal Commissioner, recommending strict action.

Based on the findings, Dr. Devang Rana, Associate Professor and expert pharmacologist at Sheth V.S. General Hospital, has been suspended with immediate effect for misconduct and procedural violations. Action is also being initiated against the then Medical Superintendent. Additionally, eight contractual doctors serving at the hospital have been relieved of their duties.

The investigation committee will continue its probe and is expected to submit a final report soon. DeshGujarat
