Ahmedabad: An unidentified man was found dead with serious injuries late on Saturday night near Kalash Residency, opposite Jain Derasar at the Navrangpura crossroads. However, it was later revealed that the victim was deliberately run over by an auto driver after he failed to pay a fare of Rs 30. The police have now arrested the driver, Samir Kanubhai Raghunath Nat, who originally hails from Kanjarbasti Ramganj, Ajmer, Rajasthan.
According to police, a case was filed under BNS Section 103(1) and various sections of the MV Act at Navrangpura Police Station. As part of the probe, a joint team led by senior officers from Zone-1 and the LCB reviewed over 300 CCTV footages. Based on technical analysis and intelligence, the autorickshaw bearing number GJ01BX2545 was traced to Bhupendrabhai Rajkumar Nat. However, it was later found that the actual driver was 22-year-old Samir Kanubhai Raghunath Nat, a resident of Rudra Apartment, Bodakdev. He was apprehended through the combined efforts of the LCB Zone-1 and the Navrangpura Surveillance Team.
According to police, the incident occurred on April 19, when the accused picked up the victim and another man from the Vadaj bus station. After dropping one passenger at Lakhudi Talavadi, he brought the victim towards Navrangpura. When the victim asked to relieve himself near Jain Derasar, both stopped at Kalash Hotel. During the break, the victim told the driver he had no money to pay the Rs 30 fare and walked away. Enraged, the accused drove the rickshaw into the victim from behind and then ran over his legs, causing fatal injuries. DeshGujarat
