Major fire destroys NTPC solar project godown in Dahod
April 22, 2025
Dahod: A massive fire broke out late Monday night at a warehouse storing equipment for a 70 MW solar power project under construction by NTPC, a central public sector company, in Dahod district. Firefighting teams battled the blaze through the night, and it was finally brought under control by Tuesday morning.
The incident took place around 9:30 pm in Bhatiwada village. Deputy Superintendent of Police Jagdish Bhandari reported that the fire caused extensive damage, destroying nearly the entire godown, though no casualties were reported. “Seven to eight staff members and four security personnel present at the site were safely evacuated,” he added.
Fire tenders from Dahod, Godhra, Jhalod, and Chhota Udepur were rushed to the scene. Fire officials noted that strong winds hampered the containment efforts. “The alert came in at 9:35 pm, and multiple units were immediately deployed. Windy conditions made firefighting difficult, but the situation was under control by morning,” an officer said.
As of now, the cause of the fire is not confirmed. However, an NTPC employee confirmed the total loss of stored materials due to the blaze, resulting in heavy financial damage. “We spotted the flames around 9:15 pm and quickly informed the fire department. Despite the quick response, the fire spread rapidly and destroyed all the materials,” he said. DeshGujarat
